Graduate Job Opportunities
A number of employers will be visiting the college regarding Graduate Job Opportunities for our students. A series of presentations have been arranged to take place in Room 406 on Wednesday afternoons (1:00pm-2:30pm) commencing 11th February, running through to the 18th March.

G'Day ... it's Australia Day!

Happy (Chinese) New Year ! 4707 The Year of the Ox

The Chinese New Year begins today (26 January) so happy new year to any Chinese student checking the blog. Why not have a look at my post for the Chinese New Year 2008, to see Chinese related (beauty and complementary) books in the Library.

And finally, if you want to join in with the celebrations, on February 1, 2009 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, the Arcadian Centre, Birmingham is the place to be for free cultural performances, music, entertainment and firecrackers to mark the start of the year 4707 - the Year of the Ox.
Also includes a temporary market on Hurst Street selling Chinese goods and crafts.

Holistic Health 2009

The 2009 Holistic Health complementary trade event might be one you want to make a note of, as it is moving to Hall 11 at the NEC in Birmingham.It will take place on Sunday 25th and Monday 27th April. The event is trade only and entrance is free to salon owners and managers, qualified beauty therapists, nail technicians, college buyers, final year students and complementary therapy practitioners. Loan copies of the Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual: makeup for everyone from beginner to pro, are now available at Richmond House Library (copies are on order for Summer Row). This book is on the Creative Showcase reading list.
New Edition of A Massage Therapists Guide to Pathology

Loan copies of the new (4th) edition of A Massage Therapist's Guide to Pathology, by Ruth Werner, are now available at Richmond House Library. New features for this edition are a student resource CD-ROM that includes animations and video clips, modality recommendation charts, and a research literacy appendix that explains the basics of research to help explore current research.

If you are not able to get to London in March for the Professional Beauty show, then you'll be pleased to know that the Beauty UK event will be taking place at the NEC Birmingham , Sunday April 26th- Monday April 27.

Professional Beauty London
March 1-3 2009

The 2009 Professional Beauty show will be taking place Sunday 1st March- Tuesday 3rd March 2009 at ExCel, London. Please note that ALL STUDENTS must register in advance for this trade-only event, that the wearing of uniforms is now mandatory for all students attending and that proof of professional status (such as College ID card) will need to be shown on arrival. Tickets pre-purchased online cost £20.00, but this includes free unlimited masterclasses and hands-on demonstrations. International Spa Show

The International Spa Show, which is an event dedicated to spa tourism and the spa and beauty industry, will be taking place Friday 20 -Sunday 22 March 2009 at the Olympia Exhibition Centre in London.

Exhibits include: Beauty treatments and products; Spa treatments, products and services; Skincare products and services; Fitness, Health and Wellbeing products and advice; Nutrition products and advice and Rejuvenation and anti-aging products and advice.

Tickets are not available yet, but you can register an interest through the show website.
Biomechanics Book Now Online

If you have been looking for a copy of Biomechanical Evaluation of Movement in Sport and Exercise, by Carl Payton, you'll be pleased to hear that you can now access the e-book version of this online via Athens. You can read this book (which is on several module reading lists) by selecting the 'Dawson Books' database on the list of Athens resources and then entering 'Payton' or 'Biomechanics' in the 'Quick Search' box.
