New Hair 'Updos ' Book

The title is Milady Standard Updos, Johnson, and step-by-step instructions clearly demonstrate twenty-five different hairstyles, all of which are based on classic techniques and fashion-forward looks. Each procedure provides the opportunity to master a different set of skills that will increase confidence and the ability to provide future clients with wearable looks suitable for any occasion. This book had just been added to the Creative Fashion and Styling (Hair) and Hair Designs for Continuity (Ladies) module reading lists. There is also an e-book edition of this title (accessed through E-Resources and Dawson Books) so you can read this online.

New Business Resource in E-Resources

COBRA is the Complete Business Reference Adviser and is a new resource available now via the E-Resources List. It doesn't contain journals or EBooks, but rather is full of practical information for anyone working in a particular sector, or thinking of starting their own business. It's well worth having a look at this resource and browsing the COBRA index list of occupations to see what's available. COBRA includes info relevant to the hair industry, beauty industry and the sport industry.

New Film E-Book

View Item DetailsYou can now access the e-book of a new title that we've just added to our collection for The Art of Film module. Film, Form and Culture, Kolker, is available through E-Resources and the Dawson Books Database. To give you an idea of the content, here is part of the summary of this title. 
With extensive analysis of films past and present, this textbook explores film from part to whole; from the smallest unit of the shot to the way shots are edited together to create narrative. It then examines those narratives (both fiction and non-fiction) as stories and genres that speak to the culture of their time and our perceptions of them today.

The 12 Apps of Christmas



Have you heard of the award winning project from the Dublin Institute of Technology called The 12 Apps of Christmas? #12appsDIT is a free 12 day online project that might be of interest to both staff and students.

Registration for this year's project is now open and it focuses on exploring 12 mobile apps that can help students personalise their learning. A different app each day is showcased over 12 weekdays starting on Dec 1st. So, 12 apps, over 12 weekdays, taking approximately 12 minutes a day and the content can be accessed either online or via our purpose-built app, which will be available from the app stores in mid November. The Fabric of India Exhibition at the V & A

The highlight of the V&A’s India Festival, The Fabric of India,  will be the first major exhibition to explore the dynamic and multifaceted world of handmade textiles from India from the 3rd to the 21st century. It runs from 03 October 2015 – 10 January 2016 and looks to be well worth a visit. If you can't get to the exhibition it's still worth visiting the V & A site   as there are interesting articles that you can read. Accessing E-Books

For those students who've been asking me about accessing e-books, please see the following info. If you try this and are still having problems please let me know.


Instructions on Clearing Your Browser Cache

To clear your browser cache please follow the below steps, if these don’t work first time then do it again but clear both Cache and Cookies. (Same steps as below)

Firefox
1.      On the toolbar click History à Clear Recent History.
2.      Select only ‘Cache’
3.      Click ‘Clear Now’
4.      Close all Firefox tabs & windows and reopen.

Chrome.
1.      Click the options (Top right of window, 3 horizontal lines)
2.      Select ‘Settings’
3.      Scroll down and click ‘Show advanced settings…’
4.      Click ‘Clear browsing data’
5.      From the dropdown select ‘the beginning of time’ (normally selected by default)
6.      Select only ‘Cached images and files’
7.      Click ‘Clear browsing history’
8.      Close all Chrome tabs & windows and reopen.

Internet Explorer
1.      IE 8: From the Tools menu choose Internet Options.
IE 9-11: In the upper right corner, click the small gear icon (to the right of the star icon) and choose Internet Options
2.      On the General tab, under Browsing history, click Delete.
3.      Un-check the Preserve Favourites website data box.
4.      Check the Temporary Internet files, Cookies, and History boxes.
5.      The Form data, Passwords, and inPrivate Filtering data boxes may be left un-checked. You can check them to delete this data if you so choose.
6.      Click Delete.
7.      When finished, click OK to return to your Internet Explorer window.
8.      Close all Internet Explorer windows and reopen.
