New November/December Issue of Health Club Management

Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Student Conference

The 2nd Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation Student Conference will be held at Plymouth Marjon University on 18th May 2018. Keynote speakers, workshop themes and an after-dinner speaker will be announced shortly. Abstracts for presentations at the conference are now being taken (deadline 8th April 2018) and registration for conference tickets will open in January 2018.

New issue of CLAD mag Design Magazine Online

 Issue 4, 2017, of CLADmag magazine is now online. CLAD design magazine is suitable for spa and sports students. This issue has features on spa and sport stadium design and also information about the plans for the 2024 Olympic Games taking place in Paris. It also includes a feature on key trends in theatre design which might be of interest to our Specialist Hair and Media Make-Up students.

New 8th Edition of Clinically Oriented Anatomy

We now have plenty of loan copies of the new 8th edition of Clinically Oriented Anatomy, Moore,
 for anyone who would like a copy. This title is on several module reading lists so is well worth a read. Comprehensive updates reflect changes in the clinical application of anatomy as well as new imaging technologies, focusing on the anatomy that students need to know.

A Date for Your Diary - Professional Beauty London

 

The next Professional Beauty London event will be taking place at Excel London on 25th-26th February, 2018. Taking place alongside this event will be The World Spa and Wellness Convention and HJ Live for hair professionals. You can register for free tickets at the event website, but please remember this event is for trade and professional visitors only and you need to be over 14 to attend.

Balenciaga Fashion Exhibition at the V&A

On now until Sunday 18th February 2018, at the V&A, London, is the  Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion exhibition. Tickets are available to book online and cost £12.00. Read all about the exhibition, including the highlights on the V&A site. Even if you can't make it to London to see the exhibition it's worth visiting the site to see the related photographs and X-raying Balenciaga to see the interior structures of the clothes revealed by X-Rays.

New Salon Business Book

We have recently added Setting Up Your Hair, Nail or Beauty Business: for the mobile, home-based, self-employed or salon owner, Lee, to our collection. There is lots of useful basic information about setting up your own business in this book (written by someone who has worked in the UK hair, nail and beauty business for over 20 years) that will be useful for an assignment or if you are thinking about setting up your own business when you've completed your course.

Therapy Expo 2017

 

The Therapy Expo training event for therapy professions will be taking place at NEC Birmingham on 22nd and 23rd November 2017 and final year students are able to get a discounted price ticket. The conference programme is dedicated to four key areas, MSK, Sports Injuries & Biomechanics, Neuro Rehabilitation and Acute Care, covering everything from manipulative therapies to Tracheostomy care. I just wanted to say a big welcome to any new or returning Further Education Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy and Sport students. My name is Dianne Hudson and I am your Subject Librarian for Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy and Sport on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday until 1pm. Your Subject Librarian from Wednesday 1pm until Friday will be Sarah Bagnall.  We will be posting details of events and other hair, beauty  and sport information via this blog. One of us should be seeing you during your Library induction, but if not we look forward to seeing you when you visit the Library throughout the year.

The Library will be opening revised hours during the Spring Bank Holiday week, so if you are planning to do some studying then you might like to make a note of the revised times. Remember that we have plenty of online resources that you can use when we are closed, including many e-books.

New Vivienne Westwood Book

International Therapist Magazine

The new Spring edition of International Therapist magazine is now available in the Library. Inside this issue are details of the sessions available at the  FHT Training Congress (in conjunction with the Holistic Health Show) which is taking place at the NEC Birmingham from Sunday 21st to Monday 22nd May 2017. Also in this issue on page 22 is Face Value, an introduction to facial acupuncture cosmetic enhancement (FACE).

New Mintel Haircare Reports

If you are looking for reports on Haircare in the UK we have access to two new Mintel reports that have been recently published.  These are Women's Haircare-UK -March 2017 and Men's Haircare- UK -March 2017. You can find these in the Mintel database via the E-Resources link on the Library portal page.

Reading trade magazines is a great way to keep up with all that's happening in industry, and you can sign up to receive some of these by email for free.  Titles include Spa Business, Spa Opportunities, Heath and Fitness, Sports Management, and CLADmag (an architecture and design magazine that includes spas and sport centres etc.). New Collection of Art Nouveau Designs in VADS

One of the world's largest collections of work by Glasgow Style designer Talwyn Morris has been launched online by the Visual Arts Data Service (VADS) for free use in education and research. If you are looking for creative inspiration, you might like to have a look at this large collection of books to see their art nouveau design covers. VADS provides free online access to over 140,00 images for use in education, from over 300 collections across the UK and is hosted by the University for the Creative Arts (UCA).
